Evolving Nova with a Prominent Premaximum Halt

چکیده
We summarize photometric and spectroscopic observations of V463 Sct (Nova Sct 2000), which was originally thought to be a red variable. The spectrum taken on 2000 March 16.81 UT showed prominent emission lines with a FHWM of 990 km s (Hα). The light curve shows a conspicuous premaximum halt lasting at least for 24 d, and a late-phase flare-like maximum. The nova then started rapidly fading at a rate corresponding to t2 = 15 ± 3 d. Long premaximum halts have been considered as a unique character of the “slowest” novae. The present observation, however, suggests that the long premaximum halts are not a unique character of the slowest novae, but a more general phenomenon spreading over a wider range of nova speed classes than has been previously believed. A recent interpretation of premaximum halts requires that the conditions of thermonuclear runaway was only marginally satisfied. Since such conditions are more difficult to meet in rapidly evolving novae, V463 Sct would provide an unique opportunity in testing this interpretation. The early post-outburst spectrum showed co-existence of FeII lines and some forbidden lines, which suggests that substantial amount of material may have been ejected before the observed optical maximum. The impact of the modern global network (VSNET) on confirmatory processes of transient objects is briefly discussed.

The Nature of Premaximum Halts of Classical Nova Outbursts: V723 Cassiopeiae and V463 Scuti
We present a new interpretation of long premaximum halts of nova outbursts. For V723 Cas (Nova Cas 1995) and V463 Sct (Nova Sct 2000), we have reproduced light curves, excluding the brightness maxima, starting from the long premaximum halt through the late decay phase of the outbursts using a steady-state optically thick wind model. When the hydrogen-rich envelope of the white dwarf (WD) is mas...

متن کاملThe nature and evolution of Nova Cygni 2006 ⋆ , ⋆ ⋆
Aims. Nova Cyg 2006 has been intensively observed throughout its full outburst. We investigate the energetics and evolution of the central source and of the expanding ejecta, their chemical abundances and ionization structure, and the formation of dust. Methods. We recorded low, medium, and/or high-resolution spectra (calibrated into accurate absolute fluxes) on 39 nights, along with 2353 photo...
متن کاملA New Generation of Physicians in Sub-Saharan Africa?; Comment on “Non-physician Clinicians in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Evolving Role of Physicians”
This commentary follows up on an editorial by Eyal and colleagues in which these authors discuss the implications of the emergence of non-physician clinicians (NPCs) on the health labour market for the education of medical doctors. We generally agree with those authors and we want to stress the importance of clarifying the terminology to describe these practitioners and of defining more formall...
متن کاملGALEX J194419.33+491257.0: An unusually active SU UMa-type dwarf nova with a very short orbital period in the Kepler data
We studied a background dwarf nova of KIC 11412044 in the Kepler public data and identified it with GALEX J194419.33+491257.0. This object turned out to be a very active SU UMa-type dwarf nova that has a mean supercycle of ∼150 d and frequent normal outbursts with intervals of 4–10 d. The object showed a strong persistent signal of the orbital variation with a period of 0.0528164(4) d (76.06 mi...
